A Twitch livestreaming platform video appeared on Monday purporting to show Ruslan Gorring, the deputy head of a state mineral exploration corporation, cursing out other players. Russian Space Chief Calls for More Women in Space

The head of Russia’s space agency has said he supports a separate crew of all-female cosmonauts following anonymously sourced reports suggesting plans may be underway for such a move.
The Soviet Union and Russia have sent four female cosmonauts in the space program’s history, compared with 50 women astronauts who have flown with NASA. No women were among the eight new recruits hired by the Roscosmos space agency last summer.
“We believe the cosmonaut corps would look more confident and work more efficiently if the number of women increased,” the state-run TASS news agency quoted Roscosmos head Dmitry Rogozin as saying Monday.

Russia’s cultural capital, St. Petersburg, has also distinguished itself as most tolerant of the LGBT community, according to the results of a recent survey.
Russia banned “homosexual propaganda” among minors in 2013, leading the courts to ban gay pride events and public polling show surging anti-LGBT sentiment. In recent weeks, authorities in the North Caucasus republic of Chechnya have again been accused of illegally detaining and killing gay men and women.

Rare Swans Spotted in Russia After Century-Long Absence

PDF Печать E-mail

A flock of rare whooper swans has been spotted in the winter for the first time in a century in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region, a local animal protection watchdog said Wednesday.
The birds are on the region’s endangered species list, the local branch of the Gosokhotnadzor animal protection committee said in a statement. Whooper swans are known for their loud calls, which can be heard from several kilometers away.
“The last time the whooper species was seen in our environs in winter was at the beginning of the 20th century, or about 100 years ago,” Gosokhotnadzor cited a local birdwatcher as saying in a social media post.
Seven other Russian regions have placed whooper swans on their endangered species lists, Nizhny Novgorod’s animal protection watchdog said.
“At present, the life and health of the birds is not under threat,” it said.
